Displaced Children of Lebanon

An article by The Independent today detailed the trouble faced by the children displaced by the conflict in Lebanon, of which there are 300,000 now. They don’t wonder about the things that children in uninvaded countries wonder about like whether they want to be a doctor or policeman, or if they’ll make the soccer team; they wonder why the Israelis hate them so much and how big nuclear bombs are. One asked his mother what a massacre was.

Countless families were forced from their homes, and many had children. Now they are living in “displacement centers,” there are shortages of water and food. Water quality is poor and some women have stopped breast-feeding due to the stress. Many live in open-air refugee camps or schools. Some families have been forced apart in the fighting.

Israel remains determined to continue the war until it ends entirely on their terms, regardless of the consequences to civilians.
