UN Fighting to Help Civilians

An Israeli attack killed 33 at a farm recently, according to The Independent. The Israeli military also destroyed four bridges, further disrupting aid efforts.

The United Nations should not have to struggle to deliver needed supplies or to aid the wounded, but that is the situation Israel has created. The military destroys what it decides to be necessary, with no regard for how this will affect civilians. The “umbilical cord,” as the UN calls it, for sending supplies to Lebanese, has been cut. A number of drivers have been unable to deliver food, and roads are continually being destroyed.

Israel says that the destruction is necessary to prevent arms from coming to Hizbollah. Ironically, a recent article in the New York Times noted that Hizbollah does often supply civilians with food and medical care in the southern region of Lebanon, at times when the Lebanese government cannot.
