Sudanese Peace Plan not Agreed On

The Sudanese government stepped up its military offensive recently, defying a United Nations resolution, according to Times Online. The United Nations wants Sudan to accept 21,000 police and peacekeepers, but Sudan’s government says that instead the African Union force should be strengthened, whose mandate expires September 30. It currently consists of only 7,000 troops, and its head says that the rebel groups see them as targets, not peacekeepers. Most of the peacekeepers have not been paid since May.
