US Likely to Veto Investigation

The United States is expected to veto a proposal for an independent investigation into the attacks in Beit Hanun that left 18 civilians dead recently, according to YNet News. Israel has promised to conduct its own investigation, but many other leaders have, unsurprisingly, come to the conclusion that that is not good enough.

According to YNet, “Palestinian UN observer Riyad Mansour said it was time for the UN’s most powerful body to shoulder its responsibilities with regard to the Israeli offensive in Gaza, a view backed by Arab and Islamic nations and the 117-member Nonaligned Movement of developing countries.”

France’s ambassador to the UN, Jean Marc La Sabliere, said that France also wanted an independent investigation to be conducted.
